A floating staircase brings lightness and space to a home through clean lines and a small footprint. For this cladding project, we needed to preserve both the integrity of the design and material performance. We stepped up to the task, working with a skilled sawmiller to craft a slim profile that could take daily wear and tear.

The goal was to wrap the concrete step slabs with a layer of wood without visually weighing them down. The hardwood cladding would also have to be sturdy enough to handle everyday traffic and remain stable with humidity changes. Because solid wood expands and shrinks, the challenge was cutting it thinner without reducing its strength.

After many rounds of testing and precise cutting, we were able to customize a cladding solution with the ideal profile. The 2,300 sq ft installation went beautifully, and the client was very pleased about owning a solid hardwood showpiece instead of settling for engineered wood.
